Hygiene Appointments

Our hygienist Gil Le Grys brings extensive experience from Harley Street and dental practices near London. She works at WHDP on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

What happens at a hygiene appointment?

Private dental hygiene appointments take 30 minutes, during which patients receive hygiene advice, plaque removal, cleaning, polishing using EMS AIRFLOW® cleaning treatments, or teeth whitening kits.

If a patient has severe staining and calculus, the appointment may need to be extended to 40 minutes. Non-registered patients can access the hygienist by booking via “direct access” for their first 40-minute appointment. The additional 10 minutes are used to collect details and medical history. See private hygienist fees below.

Registering with our hygienist does not automatically register you with one of our dentists (see New Patient information). A hygienist differs from a dentist because while a hygienist follows the GDC Scope of Practice, they cannot diagnose, fill, extract teeth, or write prescriptions, like a dentist can.

Why do we promote EMS Airflow®?

Simple, it gives our patients the best experience at their hygiene appointments.

Imagine warm water gently, quietly removing the staining, bacteria and unsightly-hard deposits from your teeth. Working around brace-brackets or bridges you might have. Prolonging the delicate surface of your crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers. Cleaning your precious dental implant, or even your removal denture. Promoting your child's long-term dental health. Preparing the surface of your teeth in preparation for aesthetic procedures like tooth whitening, and all while tasting good!

Our practice uses EMS AIRFLOW® CLASSIC and AIRFLOW® PLUS powders.

The facts:

  • AIRFLOW® with PLUS powder is a non-surgical procedure that can be used safely and comfortably on all soft tissues in the mouth, whilst preserving the integrity of the natural teeth, implants, restorations, and orthodontic work. All while improving oral hygiene and bad breath.

  • It is the only technology that removes biofilm from inaccessible areas such as deep pits and fissures, interdental spaces, misaligned areas, below crown margins, around peri-implant sulcus, recessions and orthodontic appliances efficiently and in a minimally invasive way. In regard to orthodontics, this means it is able to clean around the brackets without the need to remove wires, ligatures or elastics.

  • AIRFLOW® helps early detection of white spots and caries, avoiding unnecessary aggressive dental treatments later on.

  • By removing biofilm from teeth using AIRFLOW®, it is easier to prevent and treat gingivitis, the earliest stage of gum disease consisting of inflamed and sore gums. The biofilm removal procedure is also essential to patients experiencing periodontitis and generalised bleeding, recession and exposed root surfaces.

  • AIRFLOW® treatment with the PLUS powder is ideal for children. It is comfortable, noise free and has a naturally sweet taste.
Not to mention, it is safe and effective on milk teeth and soft tissues.

  • AIRFLOW® treatment provides a clean tooth service hence aids for a better fluoride absorption.

  • Use of routine AIRFLOW® with powder PLUS eliminates the need for ultrasonics, a scaling technique that removes tartar and plaque through ultrasonic vibrations.

  • AIRFLOW® PLUS powder does not scratch and is not abrasive to any aesthetic restoration.

Were you referred to the hygienist by your dentist?

If your dentist has inspected your gums and notes the ‘BPE’ score is 2 or more and has asked you to visit the hygienist, there is a strong risk that you have gum disease or you are at risk of progression of gum disease.
