Comprehensive Care for All Your Dental Needs
At Wedgwood House Dental Practice, our dentists and dental therapists are here to provide you with personalized care to enhance your oral health. Whether you're coming in for a routine check-up or addressing specific concerns, our expert team is committed to delivering exceptional treatment in a comfortable environment. We believe that prevention is key, and our dental therapist is skilled in providing thorough dental assessments, tooth treatments and tailored hygiene plans to keep your smile healthy and bright.
At Wedgwood House, we have various types of dental professionals, including our dental therapists, Dr Vineela Lanka and Ms Jenna Benns.
As dental therapists, they can perform treatments including preventive care, gum care, the filling of adult and child teeth, the extraction of child teeth, and the placing of Halls crowns on child teeth.
The General Dental Council (GDC) limits dental therapists from doing adult tooth extraction, writing certain prescriptions, developing mechanical structures that require work from dental laboratories (bridges & dentures), and doing complex surgery (crown preparations, root canal treatments, dental implants). Vineela and Jenna would refer such treatments to our dentists Jill Geaney and Kate Pearce.
Our dentists and dental therapists work NHS and privately.
- Jill's diary is mainly private (Monday to Wednesday)
- Vineela has private spaces on Tuesday mornings
- Gil Le Grys (hygienist) only works privately Wednesday to Friday
- Jenna works Wednesday to Friday with private bookings typically Thursday and Friday mornings
Online booking is only open for (some) private bookings. Please contact our reception team for detailed availability.
What happens during a private dental check-up appointment?
Your dentist or dental therapist reviews your medical history and dentally assesses (visually and physically) your mouth, gums, teeth and neck regions. Occasionally, they may need to take X-rays or photographs of your teeth and mouth. If treatment is recommended, they will explain what and why, and propose options to help you decide what should be done while taking into account your needs and desires, your budget, and the limitations of NHS/Private dentistry.
Up to two small (intraoral) X-rays and fluoride, as needed, is included in the cost of a private check up appointment.
Large (OPG) X-ray, as needed, requires an additional fee.
Depending on the length of your appointment, some treatments may be possible at the time of your check-up. Such treatments might be the application of fluoride to teeth, a temporary filling, or even a basic scale and polish. Fortunately, most of our patients only require hygiene maintenance and at Wedgwood House, we typically schedule patients for an EMS Airflow treatment with our private hygienist Gil Le Grys to provide a thorough clean. Sometimes you will need to stabilise your periodontal health prior to complex treatments - and again we will recommend EMS Airflow. Patients with orthodontic appliances (i.e. braces or aligner) and dental implants will benefit from EMS Airflow treatments too.
Emergency appointments
Due to the GDC limitations on dental therapists, we ask that any patient experiencing severe dental pain and in need of prescription pain killers, or likely to need an immediate extraction of an adult tooth, or needing the repair of laboratory appliances (crowns, bridges, dentures) to only book with a GDC registered dentist (e.g. Dr Geaney, Dr Pearce, Dr Al-Mamun, or Dr Shazad).
